Mist.
Trapped and sunken beneath the earth
Shackled in hall of gratuitous stone
Descending below Gaia’s embrace
Concatenation of circumstance
The desert annexes the greener pasture
Engulfing in its over-arid raking grasp
Stifling and asphyxiating and grinding to dust
The garrotte threatening the switchblade
Tumultuous silence greets the halls
Where dead have long past gone to grave
And whispering ethers of the fathers of yore
Are but reminiscence lost in granite gelidity
Sword-sharp promontories line the illimitable crevasse
Bloodiest red beyond the cloudless sky
Salt rivers scything through barren lands
Viridian tears etching sorrows onto living stone
Paralysed with little hope of vindication
Sapped what strength to forbear
Casting detritus upon codex unblemished
If I only could be as sanguine
Papyrus lined with soot and ink
Etchings blacker than the darkened sky
For all the empyrean phantoms of the night
Do dearly love no more stygian sight
Tenebrous swathes through the sulphurous air
Denizens feed on capricious thought
Damned to craft with darker ink
Whipped by demons too implicit to exculpate
Some darker muse to light the byways
Embittered still by rigid battlements of stone
Rising eroded into the sunless sky
Sweetest release leading further from home
