Murray.

At the corner of Murray
She makes a quick left and stops
The bright lights flashing
Blue white red green
Neon signs spelling out fantasies
Walking billboards pass
Two streets over
The hobo stretches out for cash
Dank and smelling
Alcohol and stale urine
Grease stained and unshaven
As the sharp looking man
Passes by in a coat
Glances but doesn’t look
Murmurings blend into one
She places more metal in her lip
He staggers to the side
Cash changes hands
Puts down more than he’s seen
Not since the last mugging
Working girl adjusts her clothing
Promises fulfilled
The high school kids stroll
Released from prison a month early
Misunderstood person lights a cigarette
Cheered by understanding
Clenching it between her teeth
New toy
New boy
The lights are a drag
Tile gives way to tar
Talking to thin air
He takes a swing from the bag
Brown and scrunched up
Tannins in the dust
She buys a strawberry sherbet and smiles
On the corner of Murray
