Detritus.
When you’ve forgotten where you’re going
When the ages you’ve been turning
This way and that to find a place to stay
When home seems but another shadow
When it seems you’ll face another uncertain tomorrow
And you know that that’s where it’s going to be
When the moments just seem to blend
When the silence seems too loud to understand
And contradictions make the most sense
When the trees seem to be lesser than green
When refuse seems to be all that is between
And effluence seems another excuse to waste
When your car is running on empty
When the daylight seems to be a little more scary
And petrol is ninety bucks a tank
When still images talk more than moving words
When home is a place to not be heard
And security is the shotgun in the back
When walking feels more like running
When an empty bed makes more sense than nothing
And the empty bottle still holds a pint
When you’ve got no more good excuse
When you’ve got nothing left to lose
And that’s how you know you’re still alive
When the pain feels more fun to bear
When junkies hawk away their wares
And the smell of cocaine lingers in your nose
When the finding seems more like losing
When you’re punctured on the easy cruising
And love is more than just a broken heart
When the creeps seem more like gentlemen
When the good guys don’t exist in dreams
And good girls are there to pass around
When the one you want always leaves
When innocence is ignorant bliss
And fancy shoes can buy your heart away
